Abstract

The article begins with an examination of two carvings depicting the coat of arms of two families related to the Archbishop Gavin Dunbar and his sub-dean. The author discusses this archbishop and his family before moving on to the history and architecture of the Bishop's Palace (or Glasgow Castle) and its Gatehouse. He concludes by describing the discovery of a sarcophagus believed to be the gravesite of Archbishop Dunbar.
